Children's books at the Newberry

I'm afraid that my favorite piece
in the current exhibit of
children's books
at the Newberry Library...


was never intended for children.

It's the illustrations that Andre Helle
did to accompany "La Boite a Joujoux" by Claude Debussy.

But that's OK -- I don't especially like children anyway!




Also noteworthy at this exhibit, were some early impressions off the the original woodcuts for Tenniel's illustration of "Alice in Wonderland" -- far sharper and more delicate than the image shown above.
