20C Buddhist Sculpture

I've finally stumbled upon some serious 20C Buddhist sculpture !

The images are a bit fuzzy -- but it's better than nothing.

The sculptor is SAWADA Seiko (1894-1988)

And here are two questions:

*why are these pieces in a small, municipal art museum instead of a temple ?

*where are his students ?

  1. There is a lot of good work here, though a deceptively poor start to the video, if it hadn't been you posting it I would have given up too soon.

I am not surprised that some of the work is not in a religious temple. It would be difficult to concentrate on pious thoughts and prayers with some of those sculptures which Sir Gawain would be keen to touch! I will have to have another run of it to make sure I got the gist of it all.
